Interpretations Décor & Design has been literally making its mark on the landscape and interiors of Barbados and further afield for over four years, providing services in décor consultancy, interior decorating, floor layout and design, visual merchandising and events decorating. This company´s reach has extended regionally and its work can be found as far as Sweden.
Artistically driven, however, this is one business that will not be found resting on its laurels, and Atkins has just released to the public the latest direction in décor/art. It´s called Abstract Expression, a new, innovative product line from Interpretations Décor & Design. Atkins says the new line was conceptualized with the intention of allowing both the décor clientele, and the general consumer, to have an additional decorative option.
Abstract Expression features mainly wall hangings made of wood, done with abstract and graphic forms combined to create a unique collection of designs , that appeal to both decorative and artistic standards. The new line has a 3-D look and feel about it that sets apart from traditional wall hangins, and gives new dimension and appeal to its environments, utilizing colour, form, pattern, texture and content. Atkins´ inspiration for Abstract Expression really got started when he decided to create some unique Christmas gifts for friends and the response was more than encouraging. This artistically inclined individual never thought of himself as an artist, and although his ability was by school teachers in tangible ways, he saw art as a hobby, and on leaving school pursued a career in decorating. “I thinking abstract, and the pieces evolve,” is how he describes the process of creation — a process which, from his mind to the creative medium, could take a full day on average.
Atkins´ initial pieces have been produced with Honduran Pine Ply, but he has plans for incorporation of more indigenous materials, and other media as the process develops. Another plus for Abstract Expression is that every piece is unique, although one basic image can be used to evolve into totally different designs. As it is with most exciting artistic expression, Atkins manipulates the mind and there is a lot to be seen in his work.In viewing his pieces you may see what he sees, but take another look and you will probably see a lot more. This décor art is different, the perfect conversation piece, and will no doubt make an impression in any home or office. The work is currently on display as part of the Barbados Youth Business Trust (BYBT) Young Entrepreneurs in Arts and Craft Exhibition, ongoing at Bagnall´s Point Gallery, Pelican Craft Centre.
Interpretations Decor & Design is also displaying some unique furniture pieces, decorative and functional side tables, and decorated mirrors are also part of the Abstract Expression line. Customers can even order a customized package, such as a wall hanging and corresponding table. The work of Interpretations Decor & Design really brings dull spaces to life, and now you can take it home with you.
